Choosing a font: tips from the engravers

Think about distance

Bench plaques are read from a step or two away. Classic Roman and Modern stay clearest.

Save script for names

Script looks beautiful on a name, but long lines in script are hard to read.

Capitals for small plates

Engraved capitals keep tiny lettering crisp on small plates.

Mix two at most

A script name with Roman text underneath is a popular, balanced combination.

Welsh accents

All our fonts engrave Welsh characters such as ŵ and ŷ correctly.

Matching existing plaques

Adding to a bench with existing plaques? Send a photo and we’ll match the font.

Frequently asked questions

Can I choose a different font?

Yes. We have many more engraving fonts than shown here. Tell us what you’d like and we’ll send a proof.

Can I mix fonts on one plaque?

Yes. A script name with Roman or capitals for the other lines is a popular choice.

Will my plaque look exactly like the preview?

Very close. The preview uses web fonts that match our engraving fonts, and we always send an exact proof before engraving.

Which font is easiest to read outdoors?

Classic Roman and Modern are the clearest from a distance, especially on stainless steel.
